Power Plant Building

The Center for Documentary Studies, with Duke’s MFA in Experimental and Documentary Arts program, other university partners, and the American Tobacco Campus (ATC), offer programming and event space at the Power Plant Building at ATC, built in 1930 as a coal-fired power source for this repurposed tobacco warehouse complex. ATC, a registered historic site, is a vibrant business and entertainment destination in the heart of downtown Durham.

The Power Plant is a dynamic facility that features the Full Frame Theater, a 99-seat state-of-the-art screening space; the Power Plant Gallery, a 1,500-square-foot visual arts space that is a joint initiative of CDS and the MFA program; and the Boiler Room, a unique event venue flanked by mammoth coal-fired boilers used in the original building. The offices of CDS’s Full Frame Documentary Film Festival are also housed on the first floor of the building. The Full Frame Theater, Boiler Room, and a flex room are available to rent as event spaces.
