Assistant to the Director
1317 W. Pettigrew St. L302
Xaris Martínez (pronounced HA-ri'z) was born in California, grew up in Guatemala, and returned to the Golden State to work full-time at research libraries while getting a bachelor's degree in history at UCLA. After graduation, she moved to Mississippi to pursue a master's degree in Southern Studies. During her time at Ole Miss she worked as a production assistant at The Southern Documentary Project and helped write and edit entries for The New Encyclopedia of Southern Culture. From 2011 to 2015 she was a doctoral student in history at UNC and served as a bi-lingual teaching assistant for courses in history, southern studies, global studies, and women's and gender studies. When she doesn't have her nose in a book or her eye looking through a camera viewfinder, you will most likely find Xaris kayaking, baking, or knitting.
