In 1994, the Center for Documentary Studies moved from its original location in downtown Durham to a renovated turn-of-the-century house on the edge of Duke University’s campus. The Lyndhurst House and a large three-story wing, the Bridges Building, house the main activities of CDS, including our four exhibition spaces—the Juanita Kreps, Lyndhurst, University, and Porch Galleries.
An off-site facility located downtown, the Power Plant Building, is a joint operation of CDS, Duke’s MFA in Experimental and Documentary Arts program, other university partners, and the historic American Tobacco Campus (ATC) complex. The Power Plant at ATC houses the offices of the Full Frame Documentary Film Festival, the Power Plant Gallery, and several spaces that are available for event rental, including the Full Frame Theater, the Boiler Room, and a flex room.
