During this special topics course, we will discuss the place of public media in the U.S. broadcast landscape and develop skills in actual production of social science stories featuring Duke University research. Students will have an opportunity to work on The Measure of Everyday Life, a weekly public radio show that attempts to address this gap. Locally produced at Durham’s WNCU and hosted by Duke adjunct faculty member Dr. Brian Southwell, the show offers a laboratory for storytelling about social science. The show airs on Sunday nights in the Raleigh-Durham market and people around the world download archived episodes online (via iTunes, iHeartRadio, or measureradio.net).
