Sofía Gallisá Muriente
Sofía Gallisá Muriente is a visual artist working primarily with video, film, photography, and text. Her work explores the subjectivity of historical narratives, examining formal and informal archives, popular imaginaries, and visual culture. She has participated in experimental pedagogical platforms—such as Beta-Local’s La Práctica—that substitute graduate studies for a collaborative process of learning and unlearning. Gallisá Muriente has been featured in the New York Times, Art in America, Terremoto, and Hyperallergic and exhibited at the Whitney Biennial, the Queens Museum, the Getty Foundation’s PST: LA/LA, ifa Gallery Berlin, Museo de Arte Contemporáneo de Puerto Rico, the Latin American Art Museum of Buenos Aires, and the Center for Contemporary Arts in Glasgow, among others. She is currently a fellow of the Puerto Rican Arts Initiative and the Annenberg Innovation Lab at the University of Southern California.
