Call for Proposals: Duke Faculty/Student Engagement with DocX Residency Fellows
Deadline: January 31, 2025
The Center for Documentary Studies announces a call for proposals to support Duke University faculty who wish to engage students with DocX Residency Fellows during the period of March 18 – April 18.
DocX is a program of the Center for Documentary Studies that strives to meet the critical need for artists to be supported and nurtured in their imaginative thinking, exploring and questioning. We believe that joy, fellowship and reciprocal care for each other’s processes and intentions are essential for creating a truly generative space for creation.
The DocX Residency–Another World is Possible is an invitation for documentary artists working across disciplines — filmmakers, photographers, multimedia artists, audio artists and independent researchers — who are investigating or posing questions about imagining new worlds or dismantling oppressive frameworks. Four individual fellows and one team of two fellows have been selected by a jury to participate in the residency and will be based in Durham from March 18 – April 18, 2025. Read about the selected fellows and their projects.
We aim to foster connections between professional artists and the Duke student community through faculty-generated proposals. Faculty whose proposals are accepted will have $1,000 deposited in their research funds.
Eligibility
All Duke faculty, regardless of seniority, are eligible to apply.
Selection Criteria and Review Process
Applications are due by January 31, 2025, and will be reviewed by the director of DocX, Stephanie Owens, and shared with DocX fellows for their input. While broader proposals are welcome, applications that demonstrate ties to an individual fellow’s specific practice will receive higher consideration. Notifications will be sent by February 20, 2025.
Proposal Submission
Proposals should be 1-2 pages long and detail how you see your students engaging with a particular fellow, whether in the classroom or through another specific engagement with students.
Please submit proposals here.
